Properties
Titanium - a material with unique properties. Where other materials fail, titanium is a real solution.
Penetrating the depths of space, the world´s oceans, reaching into atomic structures or the human body - none of these would be possible without titanium.
Good corrosion resistance, high strength and low density, extreme mechanical and thermal loading capacity and biocompatibility are the main reasons for the many and varied applications of titanium.
In addition to these firmly established areas, however, titanium materials offer interesting alternatives in other sectors too. In a whole series of borderline cases it is therefore recommendable to conduct a profitability analysis comparing titanium and steel, especially since the typical properties of titanium as mentioned above often enough yield a considerable reduction in material costs against steel. At the same strength titanium is all of 42% lighter than steel. And as the design engineer needs volume but pays for weight, costs are also 42% lower compared with steel. That weighs up to a lot in cost terms.
